This week's theme: Grounding. It seems that Eastern medicine is just catching up to the benefits of the thousands-year-old practice of grounding or "earthing" in yoga (here's one article...skip to the conclusion if you are in a hurry...https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3265077/ ) Grounding involves reconnecting to the electrons directly available from the earth, or the body sensing support from underneath while indoors. The brain senses support of the body, and reacts by reducing anxiety or stress in the body. The article mentions possibly finding an " effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS (autonomic nervous system) dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV (heart rate variability), hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease." Feeling connected is always an essential healing element of our practice-connection to ourselves, each other, our yoga community, our bodies, minds and spirits, and this week's focus...the earth.
